When the fireball power up fails to hit the target in front of you and passes them completely, that’s what I decided enough is enough and finally said goodbye to this game. Failure to pass every plane is almost always due to the star-boosts that hurtle you towards the water with the already implemented icy controls. The main thing that encapsulates how bad the controls are here is shown through the power-ups that are supposed to help you. I got hit by things that weren’t even there as well as a loss because the game thought I didn’t go through one of the rings when I did. Notice how I said, “good run.” This is because I don’t know what it feels like to be in third place, that’s how bad this is. With the icy controls included, which always makes everything worse, my hatred for this game skyrocketed with how many times I got cheated out of a good run. This was the last level I ever played, and it encapsulates every wrong with the trilogy as a whole. These races, like Country Speedway, are rigged. The nail in the coffin, though, is the racing segments in the third game, Spyro Years of the Dragon. How can flying and swimming feel so much like ice skating? I don’t think I will ever understand this. Many times during my play through, I would have to take a hit because Spyro can’t move the way you want to. The same goes for underwater segments where Spyro’s movements are so laggy and unresponsive that it’s easier to get hit than to dodge. To put it bluntly, flying in this game feels like ice skating, which, in the original game did not happen. These levels are dependent on flying, charging, and flaming down certain enemies in a certain amount of time. To summarize everything wrong with these games, it’s best to look at one of Spyro’s biggest drawbacks, Speedways. With the camera fighting you every step of the way, it’s no wonder why completing these games are a nightmare. Once you start and try to complete every level, I promise you that by the end of it all, you will hate yourself for completing it as the video game Gods constantly torture you with bad underwater controls, glitches that prevent you from completing the game, and worst of all, the camera. Every level in all three games that require quick control movements is awful. I have never felt more hatred for a video game reboot than the Spyro Reignited Trilogy.
